As a Libra, I feel as though I am not the best at letting go of things. Whether it’s a grudge or a pair of gym shorts from middle school I definitely think twice before deciding if I’m ready to get rid of them completely. With that being said, there are still quite a few areas in which I actually am able to let go, and one of them is in relation to stuff around the house.
Since our flat is quite small I have always been strict with keeping unnecessary furniture pieces to a bare minimum. In my mind, I would much rather live without a coffee table for a whole year if it means I will eventually find one that I really love. Right now I’m considering switching up some of the furniture in the living room and beginning the process of researching pieces with dimensions that fit the space I’ve got, and then later I’ll make plans to acquire them. This whole process can last from a few days to multiple months, depending on the scale of the project and the outcome I’m trying to achieve.
As well as researching and planning, I also have to do a lot of mental preparation. If I’m replacing something that I use every day I have to consider where I’ll be moving stuff until the new piece of furniture is ready for use. Sometimes this step is the hardest, especially when trying to replace a bookcase or a desk. Even just the sheer thought of spending a whole day filling boxes with books and trinkets would be enough to turn someone off of the whole project, but it’s important to remember why you want to replace your furniture in the first place.
Maybe the reason why is urgent, like a broken shelf or wobbly legs, but it might even be something as simple as the fact that you want something prettier. There are so many good reasons to ditch that old piece of furniture you’ve been holding onto, especially if you’ve already got your heart set on something new. The first step is identifying what’s not working with your current set up, and after that you can begin to think about how you can make it fit your needs. And the second step is to begin looking at furniture. It doesn’t have to happen over night, but sometimes it all comes together a lot quicker than you expected. If you’re thinking of changing up your furniture I wish you the best of luck, and remember: have fun with it!
