Sanding and Priming

More work on the mushroom top today! I finally got around to sanding the mushroom top and I think it’s looking pretty good. I’m certainly not the most thorough when it comes to sanding stuff like this but I think I did alright. After everything looked smooth enough I went ahead and mixed up some watery white acrylic paint and covered the top with a layer to prime the surface. I think I might do second layer of the watery white paint just to be safe but once that dries I’ll be able to add the red!

After I finished sanding I noticed that the bowl inside of the mushroom head was a little loose and sure enough, I was able to pop it out without compromising the structure! I think I’ll just paint the inside white so it doesn’t look out of place. I wasn’t planning to reuse the bowl or anything but when it came out I said what the heck and decided I’d cover it in foam to get started on the second mushroom head. I did two layers of foam rather than trying to cover the entire bowl in one layer and that seemed to work a lot better. Tomorrow I’ll start carving the foam and when it’s shaped up I’ll carry on to the filler step.

I definitely want to pick up the pace with these mushrooms. I’ve also got three umbrellas that I need to try to transform, too, so maybe that’ll be my next task once I’ve got a few of these bowl mushrooms completed.
