Pulling back the curtains, I couldn’t help but squeal in excitement at the site of the fluffy white snow covering the pavement. In one swift movement I threw on my coat and stepped into my boots before grabbing my keys and flinging the door wide open. I stood outside, still wearing my pajamas as I marveled at the beauty of seeing freshly fallen snow for the very first time. It was as if I had stepped into a dream as I moved slowly, listening to the sound of frozen grass crunching softly under my feet.
I ran my hands over the tops of parked cars until I formed a giant snowball and I could no longer feel my fingers through my gloves. The air was still and had yet to be disturbed by the rumble of engines. The snow had brought a silence along with it when it covered the town last night, laying over the buildings a blanket of serenity and calm.
Breathing in the winter air, I could smell the scent of change hanging in the air. I sighed, feeling both full and content at the same time. The frigid air energized and cleared my mind, making space for the day ahead. I nodded to myself and trod back inside with rosy cheeks and bright eyes. I couldn’t wait for the day to begin.
So as you may have guessed from that short story, I saw snow for the first time today! Over the last few years that I’ve been visiting the UK I’ve always been hopeful for snow but it never seemed to happen during my trips. And now that I’ve lived here for almost a year, I honestly was beginning to doubt that I might ever get the chance to wake up to snow-covered streets, but it seems that luck was on my side today!
Everyone has always told me that snow isn’t that great and that it’s annoying more than anything else, and while I can definitely see the inconvenience in it, I wholeheartedly disagree. I think it’s magical! Everything looks so much more special and interesting when it’s snowing. Honestly I just wish it would snow more often here because I’m desperate to have a snowball fight.
