Thrifting has always been one of my favourite things to do. I get a little bit of a rush when I come across something unique at a thrift store or when I finally find that thing I’ve been looking for on FB Marketplace. Some of my most treasured possessions are thrifted or secondhand. All of our armchairs are actually from FB Marketplace!
Lately I’ve been feeling the urge to change things around in the house, and that usually ends up with me spending more time trawling home decor sites or searching for niche decor items on google. Yesterday I came across a stunning chrome dome lampshade with tiny disco ball mirrors lining the inside, and I knew I had to have it. I messaged the seller on FB Marketplace and luckily it was still available so we drove over and picked it up today for only five pounds. FIVE POUNDS!! What a steal for such a unique piece!
We already have a couple of disco balls and I was really hopeful that this lampshade would produce the same disco ball effect. As soon as we got home I ran over to a lamp to try it out… No disco ball effect. I tried almost every lamp in the house but the reflections just weren’t really visible. I was bummed out, for sure, but I’m not that upset because on its own the lampshade still looks stunning. I’ve decided to use it more as decoration rather than function, so for now it’s got a plant threaded through the opening and I’m crossing my fingers it’ll be a nice little surprise for a sunny day.
So even though my latest thrifted find was a bit of a let down, it was a nice chance to get out of the house for a bit. There was a Starbucks near where we picked up the lampshade so we ducked in and grabbed a couple of (way too strong) coffees to go. Funnily enough, we’ve seen that particular Starbucks for years and always wondered what it was like inside because on the outside it’s a typical British farmhouse-style building with the Starbucks logo stuck to the side.
