Re-potting: A Messy Process

It is Friday and I have been so thoroughly productive that I finally feel like I’m getting back to my normal self! I’ve enjoyed sleeping in until 10am this week, but I really had no choice because I was trying to get over a cold. It feels good to wake up earlier, even though I love being able to steal a few extra moments under the duvet on a chilly morning.

Today consisted of lots of laundry, however I did manage a trip to the gym in the morning. Since I wasn’t able to do my usual workouts this week I had the brilliant idea to do them all today. And lemme tell you: I. Am. Beat. But I feel great, so it’s worth it. Hopefully I go to sleep early tonight, especially since I’m totally struggling to keep my eyes open right now.

In the afternoon I went over to the mother-in-law’s house and we had a cup of tea and chatted about cookbooks before trudging outside to re-pot the plants we got yesterday. We smashed old pottery on the patio and used the broken pieces to line the bottoms of the new pots, which proved to be a little intimidating and yet very exhilarating at the same time! Then we filled the pots with soil until the new plants sat at just the right height, and from there we packed them in until they were nice and sturdy. It was such a messy process but rewarding nonetheless, and I only hope that I don’t end up killing these plants! My MIL also dug up a few little plants that had recently taken refuge in her garden, so I repeated the same process with those ones as well. By the time we finished re-potting the plants into their new containers it was getting dark fast, so we came back to my place and put all seven of them on the back patio. I’ll have to snap a photo of my new “garden” tomorrow when the sun is out and it’s a bit brighter.

Anyway, I’m quite pleased! I think the next order of business is budgeting for a flower box or two to hang on the railings. I’m very keen on having a nice little herb garden, especially during the Summer months when I’ll be feeling desperate to put mint in everything!

Oh, and before I forget I wanted to mention that I made a video about some of the things my husband and I have learned in the year since we got the keys to our flat, so if you’re interested in that sort of stuff you should check it out.
