I know I’m kind of late to the game, but when Colourpop announced international shipping I had to see what all the fuss is about. It’s been a while since I’ve bought some new makeup so I picked up three of the Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks, two Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks, and a the Dope Taupe brow pencil. All together the cost was $35, but I had a $5 off coupon, and the shipping costing was $25, bringing the grand total to $55. I also had to pay a customs fee of £12.77, so in the end the entire order ended up costing me roughly £55. Honestly, for six products ranging between $5 and $6 each I don’t think it’s that bad a value for money. Obviously if you convert the cost back into dollars it will absolutely not seem worth the money, but you’ve got to consider that these products are actually very good.
Anyway, the shades I got are Avenue, Bumble, Succulent, Naked Ladies (Ultra Satin), and Brooklyn (Ultra Satin). I did some swatches on the back of my hand and immediately I noticed how wet the Ultra Matte formula was in comparison to the Ultra Satin. The Ultra Satin felt thicker and creamier, kind of like the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, and they didn’t really dry at all. On one hand, the Ultra Satin felt super comfortable on the lip, but on the other I didn’t feel confident that my lips were going to stay put.
The Colourpop Ultra Matte formula is pretty dope, in all honesty. I did notice that when I was drinking water the formula would slip more, but other than that it was pretty fool proof. Removing the lipstick was really tough, though. Like, it took some intense scrubbing with an eye makeup remover wipe to get that stuff to budge.
As for my color choices, I think I chose some nice deep reds and bright pinks. Succulent is by far the brightest of the bunch and the only thing I don’t like about it is how yellow it makes my teeth look against the lipstick’s vibrant orange tones. Avenue is a medium-dark burgundy red and is a little tricky to apply because the formula isn’t forgiving at all, but I’m diggin’ the vampy effect nonetheless. Bumble is a dusty warm terracotta and probably my favorite shade out of the bunch because it was pretty easy to wear. It applied well but it did look darker on me than I expected so I’ll probably get more use out of this shade in the fall. Naked Ladies is a bright coral red and Brooklyn is a hot pink, but both were super comfortable to wear although as I mentioned before the Ultra Satin formula does feel like it’ll transfer at any moment!
As for the eyebrow pencil, I’m still on the fence as to whether or not I really like it. I think I prefer the Soap & Glory archery pencil because the nib is so small and defined, but time will really tell whether or not the Colourpop eyebrow pencil makes the cut.
I would have posted swatches if this was my Beauty Blog, but since it’s just my 2016 photo journal you’ll have to take my word for it and hope I take more photos of myself wearing the colors in the future!
