Cutting it Close

The clock is ticking on our front garden project and although we spent a decent amount of time digging up weeds and crocosmia corms, I’m not totally sure that we’ll be ready for the mulch delivery on Saturday! Actually, maybe we will but it certainly feels like we’re cutting it close. Tomorrow I think we’ll need to get the wheel barrow out and use that to move soil out of the way so we can start leveling the ground. We keep finding bricks and pavers and old cement deposits hidden underneath patches of weeds so that’s fun. Digging up the crocosmia corms was a little sad, though, because I really do love the crocosmia when they flower! As we were digging them up I swear the corms just kept appearing. We saved a whole bucket full so I’m hopeful we’ll be able to plant them.

While we were working in the front garden a newer neighbourhood cat came to say hello. He’s a young silver cat with white mittens and he always announces his arrival with loud wails for pettings. The other night I saw him run away after getting in a fight with (I presume) the large, fluffy, white cat at the end of the terrace, so I was glad to see that he’s looking fine! He’s a pretty sweet little cat and he was happy to be picked up. I think everyone on our street has probably met him by now because his so vocal and social! Either way, it was a nice way to wrap up our yardwork.
