After what’s felt like nearly an entire month, I finally got back in the studio and made some candles. Alex came along with me and it’s a good thing he was there because as I was setting up I realised I left my wax dyes at home! Alex drove home and picked them up and then I was able to make some Spiced Pumpkin candles.
The humidity (a constant issue with my studio) was around 70% when we got there so I decided to try pouring the candles in stages rather than pouring the entire candle all at once. I also moved the dehumidifiers so that they were right next to the containers during each pouring stage and I think that helped. I used three of my jesmonite pots with different wicks and those seemed to turn out okay. I’m curious to see if my usual wick will be too large for the containers or if it’ll work fine. The jesmonite pots seemed to cool a lot faster than the aluminum tins so I hope pouring the wax in stages helped prevent sinkholes and frosting. I’ll have to check again on Monday when I head back in.
While we were killing time waiting for wax to cool, I noticed some apple trees near the studio so we had a little look. I picked one and we both tried it and, surprisingly, we didn’t go to hell!!! Oh wait, lol, I mean the apple tasted pretty good. Silly me!
Anyway, once we finished up at the studio we came home and I got started on making Alex’s costume for my Halloween birthday party. He’s going as a Sunflower so we’re making him a sunflower face mask! I cut out a ton of petal shapes in three different sizes and then slapped a coat of white paint on them. With a bit of hot glue and some elastic or ribbon, I’ll have Alex looking like a sunflower in no time.
Oh, speaking of Alex: he took some nice photos on the drive over to the studio so I’ve tucked them in after my apple pictures. See you tomorrow!
