Painting and Being Thrifty

Author’s note: This journal entry was written after the fact on September 26th, 2022. The images, however, are from the actual day.

Alex and I spent a good chunk of the day working on the mushrooms since the weather was nice. I was expecting it to be rainy so it was a nice surprise to see a bit of sunshine! Alex gave the mushrooms their final coat of red paint while I slogged through trying to paint the stems. It was like painting a giant foam paint roller that had been chewed up by a dog. I think if I had more time (and patience) I would’ve filled in the foam with polyfilla to give myself a much smoother surface, but oh well.

Once everything had been painted we drove over to Superdrug because I had run out of shampoo and also needed hair mousse, and while we were over there we had a cheeky look in the charity shop. I found a glass pitcher for less than two quid, and I also was eyeing up a glass punch bowl set for eight quid as well as a stack of green dishes. In the end I just decided to get the jug, but when we got home I was curious about how much punch bowls cost these days and I was gobsmacked when I discovered how expensive and uncommon they are!! All of the ones that I was seeing were over £100, so I asked Alex if he would go back to the charity shop and snag that punch bowl set before they closed. Thankfully nobody had snatched it up and now I have my very own punch bowl complete with ten glass cups, a ladle, and little s-hooks to hang the cups around the edge of the bowl. I’m super pleased with my find!
