Tidying Up & Design Inspiration

Sometimes I get into one of those moods where the only thing I want to do is tidy the house, and that’s exactly what I did today. I’m not totally done tidying up, but I did manage to tackle the bathroom and the kitchen so at least I made a bit of progress!

Other than tidying the flat, I spent a good chunk of time drawing up an almost to-scale elevation of the TV wall. In a few weeks we’ll be going to IKEA again to pick up the pieces for our media unit, so I took it upon myself to hand sketch what it should look like once we put up the cabinets and the shelves. If there’s one useful thing I learned from my interior design course, it was how to draw a fairly accurate wall elevation by hand. Actually, drawing that wall elevation really helped bring to light the fact that we’ll probably need to drill some holes in one of the cabinets so that we can discreetly stow all of the cords for the TV. I’m really looking forward to getting some more shelves soon!

Speaking of shelves, I’m still not sure what we’ll end up doing with the wall by the dining table. As of right now it’s just totally blank. I might do a little gallery wall, or I might put some shelves up, but I just can’t seem to decide. It might be fun to make some art for the wall, although my patience for DIYs isn’t the best these days. Still, it could be nice to inject some handmade art into the mix.

Perhaps all of the tidying I did today sparked my interest in designing more areas of the flat! Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to finish tidying up just in time for the weekend, but for now I’m going to call it a night. It’s crazy to think that there are only 100 days left in the year (and in my 2016 Photo Journal). See you tomorrow!
