Winter Beer Festival

I went to my very first beer festival tonight, and I’m going to be completely honest when I say that it could have been better. Accompanied by my husband and his parents, we arrived at the beer festival around seven o’clock and were ready to drink our weight in golden ales. Unfortunately for us, the evening didn’t pan out exactly as we had hoped. The winter beer festival was held in a small auditorium with a live band playing on the stage. The live band was actually pretty good apart from the fact that their music was so loud that it made it impossible to hear what anyone was saying. In addition to the awful acoustics, we experienced quite a few mishaps with the beer selection. Disappointingly, a number of beers were already gone by the time we had got there, meaning our options for ale were even more limited than we thought. On a few occasions we had to change to a different type of ale because they had run out of it completely. I didn’t find out until later that they had only stocked one keg of beer per type!

Despite the winter beer festival being the wash that it was, especially with the odd assortment of blatantly single men trolling the live twitter feed for dates, and also the slim pickings for ales, I have to admit that I had a great time. In all honesty, though, I do think that my “great time” was largely down to spending an evening with my husband and my in-laws, especially since the winter beer festival was quite dismal.

But now I’m home and feeling far more tipsy after having had something like four pints of ale, so I’m going to keep this journal entry short and sweet in order to spare my future self any additional secondhand embarrassment. See you tomorrow!
