Berry Picking

Today has been challenging but there have been some highlights that I want to share!

First of all, I was finally able to pick the blackberries from the back garden and I was shocked at how many were actually ripe. I wanted to leave them on the “cane” longer so they would get bigger and maybe even a little bit sweeter but when I went to inspect them they literally started to fall off. I’m hoping I’ll get another little harvest of berries before Summer ends so fingers crossed the rest ripen, too.

Secondly, we went over to Alex’s parent’s house for dinner and it was so good. His mom made a stunning roast cauliflower with harissa, tahini, pistachios, and pomegranate seeds and it was amazing! She also made a delicious tomato salad with red onion and peanuts that was so tasty, too. Oh, and she also made a watermelon and feta salad that was the real dark horse of the whole meal because the flavour was bright and refreshing without being too sweet. For dessert we had baked cheesecake and balsamic-glazed strawberries. Yum!
