Finishing the Mushrooms

We finally finished the mushrooms today! It was a little finicky but we ended up hammering some bits of scrap wood next to the garden stakes and that provided enough stability for the mushroom heads to sit on top of the stems. We secured the mushroom tops to the stems with zip ties threaded through holes near the top of each stem and then wrapped around a metal spoke of the umbrella underneath. Annoyingly, we only realised that we should have threaded the solar powered fairy lights through the stem before securing the top with zip ties so we ended up having to cut them and do it all over, but now we know and it looks great! I’m not totally sure yet how we’re going to style the fairy lights. I’m torn between wrapping them around the stem or hanging them underneath.

I started to feel a little anxious about the party I’m having on Saturday. So many people have dropped out and it’s got me bummed, plus I still feel like the house is a mess and not in tip-top party shape. I was beginning to contemplate canceling the party and saving some money on food and drink, but I think I’ve walked back from that ledge since then. I was also feeling bummed that my costume is quite dressy and I just know I’ll be over dressed for how casual the party has become, but then Alex decided he’s going to wear a tan suit with his sunflower costume so that made me feel better.

Tomorrow is going to be hectic, I already know it. I have to go to the studio to take care of some things, the bleach I ordered should be ready for pickup at some point, then I’ve got to bleach and dye my hair, and I was thinking I’d go to dance class but now I just don’t think I have the mental bandwidth. I guess I’ll just have to see how the day goes and decide from there.

Anyway, that’s about it for today. See you tomorrow!
